National Play Day

Sara Jones, aged 4, is pictured below smiling away at the Teddy Bears Picnic which took place in Santry Woods July 1st 2007. Despite the weather many families donned their raincoats and came along to enjoy the activities. The Teddy Bears picnic has become a yearly event the Ballymun Partnership takes part in. For the second year running there was face painting, nature trails, games, hula hoops, skipping, arts and crafts and plenty of old fashion fun.

The event is held to celebrate National Play Day which was started by the National Play Resource Centre in 2006 to help communities bring back play for children in an inexpensive way. Everyone that attended was grateful to Nans Supervalu in Ballymun, who provided Fair Trade juices, bananas and water for all families on the day. The main sponsors were Ballymun Regeneration Limited, Dublin City Council, Ballymun Partnership and Childminding Advisory Service . Plenty of time and effort was put in by local groups such the Drop in Well, Global Action Plan, Lifestart and Community Guards.
