Computer Training Launching To Day

The Economic Development Section of the Ballymun Whitehall Area Partnership has developed an Information Technology training programme in response to the needs of our enterprise clients within the Ballymun Whitehall Area Partnership. Do you want to improve you computer skills? Do you want to engage more with the internet? Do you want to know how to communicate by e-mail? Do you want to learn how to type in a supported environment? If you do and you can make the time available we can deliver the course.

The Economic Development Section acquired funding to run a basic computer training course under Fasttrack Into IT initiative in 2008. In response to the delivery of this programme a need was identified for progression Information Technology training. Further evidence of this became known from one to one meetings between Enterprise Development Executive and clients on Back to Work Enterprise Allowance.

In the light of this information received the Economic Development Department has constructed a comprehensive training programme, GET IT (Get Entrepreneurs Through IT) to provide clients with the necessary skills to enable them to be more competitive within their business development. For those seeking employment enabling you develop your skills base further.

The training encompasses three modules.

  • The e-cert programme provides clients with the necessary step by step guide of for utilising a computer on a day-today basis. At the end of the programme the course participants will be able to have basic use of word doc, e- mail, calculator, games, pinball, paint program, and navigate the internet. This course has a mandatory 20 hours per week. Confidence building and self-development in using Information Technology.
  • Intermediate Training Programme, is an 8 week training course that progresses from the e-cert programme. The programme currently runs one class per week for the duration of three hours. All classes will include 1 hour training on keyboarding skills. The intermediate training programme will develop proficiency in Word processing, File Management, Internet/E-mail. Participants will have a greater understanding of the potential of each application while developing keyboard skills. Classes have a provisional content for each week that can be changed to suit the needs of the learners.
  • Advanced training is an intensive 8 weeks training module that gives a greater understanding of software applications. This part of the programme has developed to give skills on a par to Pitman clerical administrative level. 1 class per week for 3 hours duration. All classes will include 1 hour training on keyboarding skills. Word processing advanced topics will also be included. Learning how to use Spreadsheets:- The last four classes are to be used to learn spreadsheets, at the end of the four weeks learners will be competent in using spreadsheets for their needs, again any topics learners may want to be shown in class can be incorporated into each lesson. Classes have a provisional content for each week that can be changed to suit the needs of the learners. All classes will also include some practice.

This training programme will develop the skills and abilities of participants to develop IT skills up to clerical administration level. It will improve participants involvement and efficiencies in the information economy and subsequently minimise any possible digital divide.
